Isaac Cordal creates urban eclipses by inserting his tiny characters into the city’s unexpected nooks and crannies. As you wander the streets, you might spot them on the ground itself or higher up, tucked into the recess of a facade or peeking out over a ledge. Through their postures and expressions, these miniature businessmen convey a sense of incipient awareness. The artist arranges his eclipses into tragi-comic scenes that underline the existential uncertainty of contemporary life.
Cement Eclipses takes a bemused yet critical look at today’s society, tackling important issues like climate change and inequality. The diminutive sculptures pique our curiosity and help recast the serious issues they raise in a new light.
EXMURO invited Isaac Cordal to create an art walk with over 45 miniature sculptures inspired by the history and heritage the Old Port. The walk is concentrated around Rue Saint-Pierre, whose early bank buildings stand as stately reminders that the area was once the Wall Street of Québec.
